Several studies on the health benefits of the outdoors conclude that youth today take in more energy than they use, which can lead to obesity. A sedentary lifestyle, where children spend extended periods of time in front of electronic screens, is a major factor.

In addition to preventing obesity, outdoor engagement has been shown to improve social behavior, alleviate stress, and improve recovery. . Journalist Florence Williams describes this phenomenon as “nature therapy,” and as youth spend more time outside, they see more of the effects. Get Outside provides youth with easy and accessible ways to spend time outdoors.

Enjoy Nature

Southern Utah is home to Utah’s “Mighty Five” National Parks, which includes Bryce Canyon, Zion, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands. These world-famous lands are just the beginning of a large system of outdoor recreation spots that youth will be able to visit through Get Outside.. Through a diverse range of activities such as hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, and rock climbing, we provide the equipment, advisors, and support necessary for students to enjoy all that southern Utah has to offer.

Spend Less

The average household spends around $2,500 each year on entertainment; such as TV subscriptions, internet bills and electronic devices. Get Outside is determined to help organize and fund outdoor activities for high school youth in order to promote better health, engaged learning, and memories that will last far longer than what happened on the season finale of their favorite show. It’s great fun, for free!

Gain Experience

Dr. Sian Beilock President of Barnard College found through her research that, “In many situations, when we allow our bodies to become part of the learning process, we understand better.” By participating in Get Outside, students will gain valuable life experience and become more engaged learners. We will help students increase their understanding through hands-on experience in nature.
